Electronic Device Policy
Need to reach your child during the day?
Call the front office at (586) 353-2108 and we will get a message to them right away. Your child can always use an office phone to reach you.
One simple rule: phones and personal devices are powered off or silienced, out of sight, and put away from first bell until dismissal. That covers the entire school day, including hallways, lunch, and passing time.

- Cell phones & smartphones
- Smartwatches (calls, texts, internet)
- Earbuds & headphones (AirPods, Beats)
- Smart glasses
- Personal tablets & laptops
- Gaming devices
When A Device Is Allowed
- An administrator gives specific authorization
- An IEP, 504 plan, or documented medical need requires it
- A verified emergency, as determined by school personnel
"Put Away" Means All Of These:
- Powered off or on slient
- Not in hands
- Not on the desk
- Inside a backpack or locker
If The Policy Is Not Followed
First Time
Device is held in the office until the end of the day. Parent is notified.
Second Time
Parent is notified and a parent or guardian picks the device up from the office. A further consequence may apply.
Repeated
Parent is notified. Detention, in-school suspension, or a behavior contract, per the Code of Conduct.
Why this matters:
A device-free day keeps students focused, present with their teachers and classmates, and part of what is happening in the room. This policy also meets a new Michigan law that takes effect this school year for all schools.
